January 19, 2020

All violins/violas: Shoulder rest quest is on. Please be sure you have your OWN shoulder rest, not a DMS one. We have lost hundreds of dollars of shoulder rests due to students "borrowing" them. Each violin and viola player will have to show their personal rest on Monday, February 3rd.  Please obtain one asap and return one if you a DMS one. Thanks!

7th at the ASO:  We had a fantastic time! Thanks to the fabulous parents who chaperoned our trip. Everyone had a great day and enjoyed the experiences at the ASO and The Varsity. So proud of our well-behaved students. We could not have bene more pleased!!

7th Grade LGPE:  At Dickerson on  January 28th.  Yes, we want parents there! It's a concert performance with judges. All students must be in full concert attire:

7-1: Report 6-6:15pm, starts at 6:30pm

7-2: Report 7-7:15pm, starts at 7:30pm

We are so excited for our day with the 7th grade at the Atlanta Symphony tomorrow. Here are some reminders:

1. Dress nicely-no holes in jeans, no shorts, please try to avoid sneakers if possible. Nice jeans and a top, ladies can wear leggings and a nice top, cute dresses, etc. It will be chilly so plan ahead!

2. Lunch or lunch money!  Please do not forget to bring lunch money if you are eating at The Varsity or pack a lunch. Packed lunches do not have to be disposable, we are on the same buses all day.

3. What to take: small purses for ladies are fine. Please avoid large bags or backpacks (leave in locker before homeroom). Cell phones are okay, just turned off during the performance. Please be smart about cell phone use.

4. Report to theatre after announcements, find assigned bus color. Be sure you have used the restroom prior to bus. No one gets up during the performance. Take attendance in theatre, load bus for Woodruff Arts.

Welcome back and happy 2020! Here are some important reminders as we dive into semester two:

1. If you borrowed a school cello/bass, it MUST be returned before the start of the school day on Monday. Many students rely on the use of the instruments and will not be able to play if the instrument isn't here. 

2. Schedule flip: 6th grade is now the first connections block of the day, periods 1 & 2. 7th grade is in the afternoon. 6th graders: PLEASE hustle down to get instruments at the end of the day if you need to catch a bus. Plan ahead and move quickly. 

3. Chamber this week: Monday and Wednesday. We may begin rehearsing Wednesdays due to LGPE quickly approaching. Please consult with family/rides and be prepared to discuss this as an option. Payment one for Nashville and trip contract are due by the 15th. See Hardy for payment stickers.

4. 8th grade Universal payment plan: $200 is due Monday, January 6th.  Please have this turned in by the end of the week if possible. There are no refunds a...

Updates for each grade level as we wrap up semester one:

ALL CLASSES:  Final grades of the semester will include a playing check on 12/13 and written comprehensive exam, and a notebook check.If you are missing any assignments, please turn in or see a director to make it up. 
Fundraiser Reward Day is December 19th. 

6th Grade:  All students have two pieces they should be working on at home: La Petite Danseuse and Cinnamon. We are hoping to get one more piece out before the December break. Next concert is March 3rd.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our orchestra families!  We are so grateful to teach your children each and every day. Supporting your child and our program creates amazing young people, developing skills, relationships, and memories that they will carry them for a lifetime. We are so thankful for you! Have a restful, enjoyable week off.

Looking ahead: Playing checks for each class on Friday, December 6th (for those who want to practice during the break).

6th Grade: Cinnamon Violin/Viola: A-C and Cello/Bass: D-F

7th Grade: El Toro

*7th Grade LGPE: Date change update!  We are no longer on February 4th (now Rising 6th grade night). We are scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th.  7-1 will perform at 6:30pm (report 6-6:15pm). 7-2 will perform at 7:45pm, report 7:15-7:30pm. Full concert attire.

8th Grade Trip: All 8th graders intending on participating in the Universal trip should have submitted a trip contract as well as $100 deposit either online or via payment envelope at school. 

7th Grade ASO Trip: All students and parents intending in participating in this day trip to the Atlanta Symphony and The Varsity should have turned in $33 each via online payments or white envelope at school. Please note, this payment covers the bus and concert ticket, NOT lunch. Students will need to bring money to purchase lunch or pack. The menu can be downloaded here.

Concert Wrap-Up: Congrats to all orchestra students on fantastic fall concert performances! All will soon be uploaded to our YouTube channel, make sure you subscribe (under media on main menu).

Fundraiser:  Thank you for the assistance in fundraiser pickup day and to all of those families that sold items or donated. We cannot provide the program we do without your support, we greatly appreciate you!

8th Grade Universal Trip: All information and trip contracts can be located under "Forms" on our main page. Please use this resource as all updates and information will be posted there as the trip gets closer. 

*All trip contracts and initial $100 deposit is due Monday, November 4th. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any student who does not have deposit and contract form turned in will be considered as not wanting to attend. We have to start finalizing numbers on our reservations, determining the cost per student as well.

Fundraiser Delivery date is Tuesday, October 29th.  If you sold one item or 121 items, you MUST have someone pick these items up that day. Items are frozen and we have nowhere to store them. PLEASE make arrangements now for this. 

Pickup location: E-wing doors (by music area in front of school)

Times: 12 noon-6:30pm (NOT any later)

If you are not at Dickerson by 6:15pm, we will start calling you to have you come get your items. Thank you for making a plan now for pickup. All items are bagged/grouped by student. Enter orchestra room, locate your child's last name, check order against delivery sheet, sign off. Make sure you have room in your vehicle/freezer if you have large orders. We highly recommend delivering these as soon as possible, they must remain frozen.
